Pilgrimage Tours

What is a pilgrimage experience?

Bring your bible study to life with a real life pilgrimage experience. Walk in Jesus’ footsteps – or St Paul, Martin Luther and even C.S. Lewis. Join other Christians as you journey through the holy places and share devotions at the major sites.

Participate in an existing tour or create your own group with people from your church and community. Take your time to explore and you might find that a particular site or passage from the Bible that is important to you. The experience will touch each person in a different way.

Where can I go?

Israel, Jordan
Greece in the Footsteps of St. Paul
Istanbul & the Seven Churches of Revelation
Christian Italy – Rome and Assisi
Camino de Santiago de Compostela, Spain
Germany and the Reformation Tour
Britain and the C.S. Lewis Tour
Catholic Shrines of Europe

Why go?

Everyone who travels to the Holy Land is moved by the experience. Many tell us that that their understanding of the Bible has been dramatically altered. On tour you will visit and worship at the sites and also meet the indigenous Christian community. Living and travelling together breaks down barriers, you will find your team will probably get to know each other more in a few weeks, than during years of attending the same church.

Who can participate?

Everyone is welcome! However, those under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult. An average group size is 20 – 35 people, with a minimum of 16 people required to run an independent Mission Travel Group pilgrimage.

Mission Trips

A cross-cultural mission experience can change your world as much as you might change the lives of those you serve.
Mission Travel Group specializes in God inspired travel and those hard to reach places worldwide. Whether you’re already organised and ready to go with a team or if you’re interested in missions but have no clue where to start, we can get you where you need to go with minimum fuss and for the cheapest price.

We have experience in arranging cross cultural travel for individuals, church groups and mission agencies. We are passionate about helping anyone who wants to serve God and have a life changing cross cultural experience. All participants under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

People who have gone away on a mission trips have often come back with a changed worldview. Expecting to go out and change the world, mission teams come home to find that they have been changed the most from this experience.

Whether it’s lion rehabilitation in Zambia or pre-school teaching in Mozambique, Volunteer Africa offers you the opportunity to make a difference and shake up your own world! Volunteer Africa participants have the opportunity to live and work with other international volunteers, building lasting friendships, having tons of fun and discovering a totally different culture.

Organised through Mission Travel, Volunteer Africa placements are done through existing, trusted not-for-profit organisations based in Africa. Stay for a month or a couple of years, it’s up to you.

Why Africa?

Africa is a continent that will challenge any traveller. Through Volunteer Africa, you have the opportunity to make a real and measurable difference in people’s lives and to leave your mark on their hearts – and your own.

Africa offers some of the world’s most diverse eco-systems and vibrant cultures. Many international organisations and foreign countries have been involved with charity in Africa and by doing voluntary work you will be contributing toward the further improvement of Africa.

Who can volunteer?

Volunteer Africa is open to people from all walks of life and all ages (over 17 years). Whether you are a backpacker, gap year student, on a career break or simply want to make a difference during part of your travels through Africa, you are most welcome to assist in one or more of our Africa volunteer projects.

We are not interested in participating in ‘voluntourism’, where the volunteer benefits from “feeling good” about themselves. We are committed to compassionate & sustainable development. A hand up not a hand out.

Situated on the equator of Africa’s east coast, Kenya offers beautiful landscapes, amazing wildlife and an ethnic diversity that has produced a vibrant culture. Just 30km north of bustling Nairobi, amidst the beautiful tea plantations of the Kenyan highlands, lies Limuru, a community operating at a much slower pace of life than the nearby capital. You will be spending your time as a volunteer in both Nairobi and Limuru, which will give you a diverse experience of life in Kenya. My beautiful picture

Kenya’s population is hugely affected by the struggles of poverty, unemployment and HIV/AIDS. There are currently over 1.5 million people in Kenya living with HIV/AIDS, with a staggering 1.2 million additional orphans due to virus. There are various places with countless possibilities to impact the lives of those that are affected by this myriad of problems, such as the Nairobi slums, surrounding orphanages, schools and clinics.

The projects we work with are Christian projects attached to the local church. The majority of the volunteering is focused around helping in orphanages, children’s centres, community projects and teaching. These programs run efficiently without volunteers and are run my the local community. The value that a volunteer adds is a helping hand or the ability to do additional programs due to increased support/manpower.

We are not interested in participating in ‘voluntourism’, where the volunteer benefits from “feeling good” about themselves. We are committed to compassionate & sustainable development. A hand up not a hand out.

The team volunteer dates for 2015 are:

South Africa has only been free of apartheid and segregation since 1994. The heroic story of Nelson Mandela and his ‘Long Walk to Freedom’ following 27 years in prison under the minority white government was followed by his election in 1994 and exemplary presidency of what became known as the Rainbow Nation.IMG_1381

Few places in the world can boast a more spectacular setting than Cape Town, which is cradled in a vast blue-grey amphitheatre formed by Table Mountain. Curving south into the Atlantic Ocean like an eroded sickle, the Cape Peninsula has always presented a fearsome challenge to early navigators rounding the tip of Africa. Within the vast beauty of this magnificent country, lie its vibrant people and colourful communities, many of which face day-to-day struggles such as poverty, unemployment and the devastating consequences of HIV/AIDS. On the Living Hope Summer Project you will have the opportunity to get involved several of these areas, as you come alongside and serve the local communities and share the love of Christ.

Cape Town offers something for everyone. A unique city with both the First World and Third World living side by side. Our partners Living Hope have been doing incredible work for over 10 years. They would dearly love to see more Aussies volunteer in South Africa.

The ministry work incorporates community outreach, kids & teens clubs, homeless ministry, community projects and HIV/AIDS ministry. This is a well run, mature Christian organisation that has been operating in Cape Town since 1999.

Harare is the capital city of Zimbabwe and home to more than 1.6 million people, living in a country with the lowest life-expectancy on the planet (34) due to the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and perhaps the worst economic crisis in recent history.

Despite these horrific statistics, Zimbabwe is a peaceful, beautiful country – a country that was once the breadbasket of Southern Africa. In this traumatic socio-economic climate, Zimbabwe remains open to the gospel and has long been considered the gem of the continent.

Being home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls, as well as Hwange National Park (a game reserve the size of Belgium), it is a haven for travellers, game viewers and adventurers from around the globe.100_0849

Unfortunately, it is also home to one million orphans (amongst many other issues), and so there is a great need for volunteers to come and assist in various orphanages and school.

Swim Vietnam is a not for profit organisation based in Central Vietnam, which sets up swim schools, trains adults as swimming teachers and provides free swimming lessons for Vietnamese children. Mission Travel runs several Vietnam Swim Mission trips (see the Mission Trips ‘Asia’ section of our website). In addition to this there can be opportunities for individuals to travel to Vietnam and volunteer.

Swim teaching is not the only way you can help out.  If you have experience in any of the following areas and would like to offer assistance please let us know:  Fundraising experience; grant application experience; photography skills; movie making & editing skills; website design; graphic design; accountancy.
