Mission Field: Kenya
Overview
Cultures collide in Kenya, forming an enigmatic nation of extremes. Famed for it’s natural and wildlife wonders – drawing hundreds of thousands of international visitors each year – Kenya is also home to over 30 people groups. Christian missions initiatives have recognised the spiritually open culture of Kenya as a strategic launching base for Kingdom missions into Islamic North Africa. In Kenya, as in many parts of Africa, Christianity has often been mixed with traditional beliefs, animism and ancestral worship, and there is a great need to declare and live the Truth of Jesus Christ in this nation. AIDS, poverty and injustice have scarred the beauty of Kenya, and so ACTS partners with other believers in this nation to offer hope and life. Our base is in the scenic Limuru highlands on the northern edge of Nairobi and our mission is to brightly shine the light of Christ in this community.
Partner with other believers to offer hope and life
ACTS Volunteers work alongside existing local, church based initiatives that are effectively reaching communities with a hands-on demonstration of Jesus’ love – offering a hand up, not a hand-out. The love, time and resources poured into these projects by ACTS Volunteers massively support and capacity-build the local teams who, in turn, continue the work after volunteers have left, so volunteers are part of something sustainable and effective.
“where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom…”
2 Corinthians 3:17
Orphan Care and HIV/AIDS outreach
ACTS Volunteers feed and clothe orphans and also offer love, discipleship and school-fee support, as we trust God to break the cycle of dependency and brokenness through these young lives changed by his Kingdom. We are also involved in HIV/AIDS patient care, counselling and in advocating Godly lifestyle to address this tragedy at its roots.
Slum Ministry
Kibera is Africa’s largest slum and is one of the most tragic and poverty-afflicted sites on earth. Volunteers’ faith will be refined and challenged as we engage this tragedy with the love and presence of Jesus in us.
Shared Faith
ACTS Volunteers impact Africa with Christ, and leave impacted by Christ in Africa. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in shared devotion times and to work through discipleship material – drawing near to God in a time and place where everything is new, trusting that his word and call to missions will be new and life-changing. The daily interaction with other followers in Christ is a wonderful context for growth, ministry and friendship.
