Inspiring Journeys - Break the Cycle of Poverty

Monday, 9th May 2011

Mission Travel Group has the privilege of facilitating some amazing journeys for individuals, churches and not for profit organisations. We thought it might be nice to share with you some of the wonderful things the people of God are doing in the world.

So to kick us off, let's hear about some crazy guys who are cycling around Africa in July 2011.

In July and August this year a small team of slightly unhinged, yet determined cyclists are attempting a monumental ride. "How big?" you ask. Well about 5,700km in about 27 days of riding, averaging around 210km a day (on mountain bikes). To compare, Brisbane to Perth is about 4300km!

The aim of this ride is to draw attention to the orphans and vulnerable children (OVC's) of Southern Africa and the work Eagles Wings is doing there. A documentary contrasting our physical struggle on the bikes with that of the day to day grind of life as an orphan as well as visiting a number of ACTS Initiatives (a program of Eagles
Wings) partner churches and highlighting the great work they are doing in supporting OVC's in their communities will be produced along the way.

Join the journey by "liking" us on Facebook and/or track our daily struggles and successes as we cycle and blog our way through seven Southern African countries. Of course you can donate to this event. Our aim is to raise enough funds to educate 200 children for their whole primary education, and/or place street children back into their existing families and communities.

Over 200km per day to support over 200 vulnerable children? A worthy challenge!
